How Western Leaders can Build Rapport with their Asian Colleagues

AS A WESTERN LEADER IN CHINA, it can sometimes be difficult to assimilate with junior colleagues and build rapport. In this Evolving People podcast, ClarkMorgan Operations Director, Patrick McDonald, highlights the simple things that foreigners in Asia can do to quickly build rapport, boost morale, and help build a stronger, unified culture.

Patrick first moved to China in 1998 and joined the ClarkMorgan team in 2004, making him one of ClarkMorgan’s most experienced China-centric trainers.

His trainings are illustrated with stories and anecdotes from his past experience that bring the interaction alive for his trainees, while also tailoring the training to the specific needs of the trainees and company.

Patrick holds an MBA specialising in International Business and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute. He studied Industrial Psychology, Cultural Anthropology, and East Asian Studies from Loyola University – Chicago.

Love the interview. Very valuable for expats.

This podcast cracks me up. I appreciate the consistency and brutal honesty from Pat. I was expecting something serious when I saw the title but then the humor of the conversation threw me off. The asian colleagues are looking forward to seeing Pat’s effort in singing that song in Chinese when he is back from training across Asia.
