THERE’S A LOT OF TALK about measuring training’s return on investment (ROI). This seems to be the holy grail – something that HR and training departments are seeking to measure, but impossible to obtain. Even when ROI is measured the results can be insignificant, irrelevant or even negative! So says Jamie Dixon of ClarkMorgan Ltd. He believes that the problem of measuring ROI from training is that it is a short term view to a long term process. Rather, says Dixon, you should measure the effort put into learning, not the immediate benefit that is pulled out.
