Business writing for a global IT company
Business writing training built on participants' own work samples at a global information technology company.
The client
The client is a global information technology company. Its business covers IT infrastructure, global services, commercial and home computing, printing and imaging. Its customers come from telecommunications, finance, government, transportation, energy, aerospace, electronics, manufacturing and education.
The challenge
As a global and intercultural organisation, the company relies on strong business communication to drive results.
It wanted to improve the effectiveness of its reports, proposals, emails and other business writing, in both content and style.
What we designed
The workshop started from core principles that raise the professionalism, authenticity and impact of business writing in English. Participants learned to move through three levels of language ability, from enough to transmit information, to authentic and natural-sounding, to writing that evokes feelings and prompts action.
The trainer then covered the right structures for the business documents participants write most often. Working from real samples of their own writing, the group found and fixed issues and explored the precise wording for the situations they face in their jobs.
Finally, participants designed writing approaches and templates for their most common reports. This step turns workshop knowledge into habits that last.
The programme covered
- Starting with the goal in mind: People, Purpose and Payoff
- How to express yourself with the 3 levels of English
- The 3Cs: Clarity, Conciseness and Credibility
- The well-structured email with PDA: Purpose, Details, Action
- Specific, confident and positive language
- The 10 email commandments
- Email consulting on real cases
- Saying no and pushing back professionally (post-course assignment)
The result
Participants left with structures, wording and templates they could use for their most common documents straight away.
