A one-year leadership development programme for 35 managers

A one-year programme that took 35 new and newly promoted managers from leading self to leading the business.

The client

The client is a leader in PCB technology and manufacturing. It has offices around the world, and China is its key revenue generator, with more than 3,000 staff.

The challenge

With strong business growth, the company promoted new managers internally and hired others from the market. These managers needed the right skills to lead their teams and support sustainable growth.

ClarkMorgan's consulting team, the client's people development team and the China business leader agreed three objectives:

  • Build the company's leadership and management culture
  • Give the management team consistent skills, to reduce differences between departments
  • Prepare managers to take on a new role and lead their teams to effective business results

What we designed

After several rounds of consulting, ClarkMorgan designed a Leadership Development Programme around the managers' key needs. It was customised for 35 managers and ran in three parts, followed by a wrap-up.

Leading self

  • Self-assessments and one-to-one feedback
  • Time management skills (1 day)

Leading the team

  • Understanding yourself and your team through DISC (1 day facilitated workshop)
  • Leadership and Management Essentials (4 days)
  • Problem solving skills (1 day)

Leading the business

  • HR knowledge for non-HR managers
  • Finance knowledge for non-finance managers
  • Advanced project management skills

Programme wrap-up

  • Team building
  • A final presentation from each manager on key learnings and how they applied them

The result

The project was delivered over one year. After each session the trainer set assignments so participants applied what they had learned in their daily work. Feedback from the client was extremely positive about the extent of behaviour change.
